How do you tell a scheduler where to look for its data?

I've developed a calendar for to-do items. I would like to use an embedded scheduler to provide a nice display of the things in the calendar. How do you tell the scheduler to use the data within this database or does it assume it's going to look at busytime.nsf on the server?
